How to Use This Site
This site is intended to be used as a resource. It is not a course or a class by itself. The pop-out menus to the left are the main navigational aids. To view all of the topics on one page, go to the sitemap.
System Requirements:
This site requires Javascript to be enabled in your browser, and you must have a Macromedia Flash player OR Shockwave player installed as a plugin to your browser. To be fully functional, it also requires pop-up windows to be enabled. It works fine on the latest versions of Firefox and IE. If it doesn't work on your browser, try Firefox.
When you find a topic of interest, click on that topic and you should see text describing the topic, alongside an animation that will help you to fully understand the topic. Most of these animations can be replayed so if you don't get it the first time, hit the replay button. Some of the animations stop at each step and require you to hit the "Next" button to continue.
A nice feature of this site is the comprehensive genetics dictionary. Underlined terms are linked to the dictionary; simply place your mouse over the underlined term and you will see a pop up window containing the dictionary. The window should disappear as you move your mouse off the underlined word.
Try it now by placing your mouse here --> allele. DO NOT CLICK!
On some of the pages are links to bring up practice exercises. These will come up in their own window, which can be moved by left clicking on the title bar and dragging the window.
